Smart Specs Check

Optical disclaimer

This tool checks whether your prescription falls inside the range each manufacturer publishes. It is not optical advice and does not replace a dispensing optician. UK law requires that spectacles for anyone under 16, or anyone registered sight impaired or severely sight impaired, are dispensed by or under the supervision of a registered practitioner, and that prescriptions are less than two years old.

What the checker is

A comparison of the numbers you enter against the lens range each manufacturer, named partner or named optical retailer has published, with the source and the date we last read it. It answers one question: do these numbers fall within or outside that published range?

What the checker is not

Prescriptions and the law in the UK

In the UK, spectacles for anyone under 16 and for anyone registered sight impaired or severely sight impaired must be dispensed by, or under the supervision of, a registered optometrist, dispensing optician or medical practitioner (Opticians Act 1989, section 27). Sellers may require that a prescription is less than two years old. If either applies to you, take the result of this checker to a registered practitioner rather than ordering online.

Accuracy

We check the sources on the dates shown and correct errors as soon as we know about them, but manufacturers change their pages without notice. If a manufacturer's page disagrees with this site, the manufacturer's page is right and we would like to hear about it: hello@smartspecscheck.co.uk.
