How we check the information

Smart Specs Check compares entered numbers against published information. It cannot confirm whether a particular frame or lens is appropriate for a person.

Sources and provider restrictions

We use manufacturers, their named partners and optical providers describing their own service. A provider's range applies only to that route and its listed countries. Recommendations, forum posts and missing limits are not evidence of an ordering limit. Sources and checked dates appear beside the data.

Source labels describe the cited evidence: Manufacturer page, Provider page, Named optical retailer, Secondary source or User report. Independent provider identifies a provider page for a route recorded as independent. A provider publishing a range does not establish that the manufacturer endorses that provider. Route status and source type are recorded separately.

What a result means

The checker converts plus-cylinder prescriptions to minus-cylinder form, checks each eye separately and applies the recorded power rule for each route. It chooses the narrowest passing official direct route first, followed by independent providers, inserts and dials. Availability and price determine the order within a result tier, never commission.

Missing information is not a rejection

Within published range means the recorded numerical checks passed. Warnings identify fitting restrictions. Needs confirmation means a required power range, cylinder limit, requested progressive-lens detail or prism detail is missing. Device requirements are checked separately; explicit use and source choices put relevant connections first without changing optical tiers. Outside published range means a recorded restriction was exceeded. An unknown prism limit is not shown as a statement that prism is unsupported.

Reading additions, prism and fitting measurements need professional confirmation. A numerical comparison does not replace that assessment. Questions to ask before ordering.

How current is the data?

Each route and market has its own checked date. After 45 days a route is flagged as stale. After 90 days a passing route is labelled unverified, including independent, insert and dial routes. A site build date is not a verification date.

Updates and corrections

We review source pages and record verified changes in the changelog. Each provider’s limits are listed separately. Where a limit is uncertain, confirm it with the provider before ordering. Inspect the source list.

Your prescription stays in your browser

The calculation runs locally. Prescription values are not submitted, placed in links or sent to analytics. Remembering them on this device is optional. Printing a summary uses your browser and includes the displayed prescription. Privacy details.

Tools for assistants

The public dataset and read-only browser tools use the same records. If you give prescription information to an AI assistant, its provider's privacy terms also apply.

Checks before publishing

Automated tests check the calculation, country restrictions, missing limits and stale sources. Build checks cover data structure, affiliate labelling and privacy restrictions. These tests are not a clinical review.
