Privacy notice
The checker processes your prescription values in your browser. Cloudflare's hosting and performance services, and any emails you send us, are handled separately as explained below. There are no accounts or cookies of our own.
Your prescription values
The checker compares your prescription values with published lens ranges within your browser. It does not send those values to our servers, place them in URLs or use them for analytics. Values are saved on this device only if you enable "Remember on this device" and run a check. Hosting requests and any emails you send us are separate from these prescription values.
If you use an AI assistant to run the check, its provider may retain what you type under its own privacy policy. This site's on-page assistant tools perform the check locally in your browser.
The page downloads a dataset of published manufacturer and provider ranges and compares your numbers against it locally. The checker does not submit the form or make a network request carrying your prescription values. Its links and shareable URLs contain model or country selections, not prescriptions. The checker code does not send prescription values to analytics or record sessions.
Our Content Security Policy restricts script sources and script-initiated connections to this site. This is an additional safeguard, not a guarantee that data can never leave a browser. The local calculation and the absence of prescription submission are the basis of the checker's privacy design.
If you print a result, the printed or saved summary includes the displayed prescription. Anyone you choose to share that summary with will be able to read it.
"Remember on this device"
This toggle is off by default. If you switch it on and run a check, your prescription values, lens preference and country are saved in this browser's local storage, so the form is pre-filled next time. The saved record has no automatic expiry. Press "Clear" or switch the toggle off to delete it and reset the form; clearing your browser's site data also removes it. The checker does not send this saved record to us.
Hosting requests and correspondence
- Hosting. Cloudflare receives the requests needed to deliver and protect this site, including your IP address and technical request information such as the requested page, browser information and time. These identifiers can be personal information. Cloudflare Workers Logs and Traces are disabled for this site's production Worker; this does not disable Cloudflare's separate network/security processing or the connection-error reports below. Hosting data is separate from the prescription values processed by the checker. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for its description of end-user and network data.
- Connection-error reports. The live site's headers enable Cloudflare Network Error Logging. Supporting browsers may send connection-failure reports to Cloudflare, including the affected URL and technical error details, to help diagnose delivery problems. This browser reporting is separate from the checker calculation; the checker does not put prescription values in URLs. See Cloudflare's explanation of these reports.
- Performance analytics. Cloudflare Web Analytics is configured with the option "Enable, excluding visitor data in the EU". Where its reporting runs, it measures page views and loading performance, with page/referrer and browser information. Cloudflare describes this as browser performance reporting without cookies or local-storage access. Its documented regional exclusion also includes connections through UK data centres. This is separate from prescription calculations. See Cloudflare's RUM data and regional-exclusion documentation and analytics dimensions.
- Email. If you email a correction or question, we receive your email address, message and anything you attach so we can respond or investigate. Please do not email your prescription. We keep correspondence for as long as needed to act on it.
Details being confirmed: the remaining hosting-data settings, hosting and email retention arrangements, applicable lawful bases and any international-transfer arrangements have not yet been fully documented for this site. We are reviewing these details and will update this notice. For information in the meantime, contact hello@smartspecscheck.co.uk.
We do not provide accounts or newsletters, or add advertising tracking pixels to the checker. If our use of data changes, we will update this notice and obtain consent where required before optional tracking begins.
Affiliate links
Retailer links marked "Ad" go through an affiliate network, which may set its own cookie on the retailer's site to attribute a purchase. That happens on the retailer's or network's domain under their privacy policies, not on this site, and it does not involve any value you entered here. See the affiliate disclosure.
Your rights
The checker does not send us your prescription values. That does not mean hosting requests or correspondence contain no personal information. Depending on the processing and the applicable rights, you can ask to access, correct, erase or restrict use of your personal information, and request portability where it applies. Contact: hello@smartspecscheck.co.uk. You do not need to provide your prescription to make a privacy request.
Right to object: you can object to use of your personal information where this right applies.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO complaints).
